Abstract EN

International humanitarian law aims to protect victims in international armed conflicts and non-international armed conflicts, of which the latter represents the greatest majority of current armed conflicts, and releases the largest number of victims, especially civilians.

Article 3 common to the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and additional Protocol II of 1977 is the basic texts governing this type of conflict and defines the scope of its material and personal application.

However, the contemporary period witnessed the emergence of armed conflicts that do not fall within the traditional concepts of international humanitarian law concerning non – international armed conflicts, Which necessitates a review of these contents or texts in order to provide better protection for the victims.
