Abstract EN

The main objective of this study is to assess whether or not the prerequisites of inflation targeting strategy adopted by Algeria in 2010 are met.

Hence, this strategy is based on the main idea of the explicit and firm commitment of the central bank to target a specific rate of inflation that will be announced within a certain time period.

Thus, for a successful transition to this strategy, a set of operational prerequisite requirements is required as mentioned by the existing economic literature.

Our findings indicate that Algeria still does not meet all of these operational requirements, which means that the transition period towards inflation targeting was supposed to be relatively long, and should be applied in a planned and progressive manner.
