Abstract EN

As in all other languages, both the spoken and written forms of the Arabic language play a major role in communicating and conveying people's intended meaning.

Speakers of the language tend to use a variety of phonetic phenomena that allow them to communicate effectively.

Intonation, being an integral part of the language, is perhaps one of the most important phonetic phenomena in the sense that it contributes immensely, and with the help of the context, to determining the intended meaning and the rhetorical functions of the different grammatical structures.

In other words, intonation indicates what kind a sentence is since it is what directs it to be a question, an order, an exclamation or even an affirmative sentence.

Henceforth, this research paper aims to focus on that point while showcasing examples of each case from the Holy Quran.
