Abstract EN
The efficient market hypothesis (Fama 1965-1970) studied stock price variations and prices’ formation by assimilating them to a stochastic process that follows a random walk.
Therefore, the analysis of the financial market as an efficient dynamic framework cannot be dissociated from the random walk model, which has gradually risen to economic theory and in recent times it becomes a core notion of the modern financial theory.
In this study, we present the emergence of the efficient market hypothesis, through exploring the main methods which have attempted to elucidate the dynamics of the price of a financial asset.
Furthermore, we retrace the principal steps that led to the introduction of the random walk model into the theory of market equilibrium, giving rise to the theory of informational efficiency.
