Abstract EN
The association between household income poverty and child health problems is still a topical issue.
The aim of this article was to analyze the hypothesis of the influence of income poverty on child health in Africa using national monetary poverty rate data and child health indicators calculated by WHO and UNICEF.
The results of the data analysis showed that a country's income poverty is positively associated, but weakly, with the mortality rate and the prevalence of underweight children under 5 years.
Conversely, it is linked negatively and weakly to the life expectancy of a country.
From these findings, we argue that reducing income poverty in an African country will reduce child mortality and underweight, but will increase life expectancy at birth.
