Abstract EN

The Banner of Diwanyh is characterized by its commercial activities that made it occupying a distinguished place among the cities of middle Euphrates.

Dhyaab River was divided the city into two part.

Most of the commercial exchanges at that time relied on river transportation through simple boats and steamers.

These means regularly worked specially in the season of the harvest of rice.

Corps and dates were conveyed from Adwanyiah to all the neighboring banners.

These ships centered in a place, close to Al-Hamara Cinema, called Al-Koroh which is close to markets of the banner and storages and selling things that people need.

The loaded boats were facing difficulties in passng through river in summer particularly from Nassriya to Semawa in the distant of 90 miles.

They could sail in the season of flood in ships that went down into three feet in that part between Semawa and AlKefil.

Boats could sail in Al-ShamiahShettee in the times of flood.

Al Mashhoof was used only when the level of water was lowered.

They also were on KufaShettee.

The selection of 1921 as the starting point for this study is done on purpose.

This year witnessed the beginning of building Iraqi as a country.

Adwanyh is part of this young country.

By taking 1958 which witnessed the end of the royal reign in Iraq, this year denoted a new stages of developments in relation to commerce after a period of stagnation of the royal period.
