Parliamentary cooperation between Algeria and Turkey is instituted on a legal basis embodied in the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation signed by the two parties in 2006, which, in item 09, paragraph 30, calls for political cooperation and consultation through the promotion of communication and dialogue between the parliaments of the two countries.

This initiative is due to political, economic, multidimensional and background reasons imposed by recent international changes.

The framework of this cooperation is the Parliamentary Group for Friendship and Cooperation, which aims to lay the foundations for parliamentary diplomacy through the development of political dialogue between the two sides, coordination of the positions of the two parties on international issues of common concern.
