Abstract EN

The oral history, or the so called oral narration, has existed since the dawn of time dating back to Herodotus.

The latter has based his narrations on the oral narratives of the period which was highlighted in many of his writings.

Then, biographies and memoirs were implemented leading to the emergence of printing and documents.

However, the oral novel, despite new innovations, still has a preeminent role in filling in the blanks left out by the historical documents.

Besides stressing the role of marginalized classes, oral narratives have provided a complimentary interpretation to document studies; therefore, they have been used as a source of writing down history; national history of the Algerian revolution in particular which is rather based on the live witnesses and documented war crimes against the Algerian people.

However, in order to overcome the obstacles faced when attempting an interpretation of an oral novel, a set of guidelines has to be considered, especially when the document is available.

It is also noteworthy that the interview remains one of the most viable forms of the oral novel with a number of instructions, regularities and disadvantages that the researcher has to be cognizant of.
