Even today, nothing in the archeological and historical research begun since the last quarter of the 19th century in Algeria and in particular in western Algeria, can be considered as an ancient history of the region of Sidi-Bel-Abbès.

During the period of French occupation, the question of cultural heritage and especially archaeological sites was approached from a purely colonial perspective: The inheriting country of Rome is the equivalent of the restoration of Latin and Christian continuity in North Africa.

The Archaeological Atlas of Algeria summarizes in itself the French colonial program.

A program based on the idea of a transfer of ownership.

Archaeological sites of all kinds are not well known to the general public today.

Their story remains hidden.

Our study divides the protohistoric and ancient sites into two main categories.

The first categoryConcerns sites that have always been more or less known, especially by travelers and columnists, but they are no longer inhabited.

Examples abound: Ala miliaria (Bénian), Albulae (ATT), Altava (Ouled-Mimoune), Kaputtasaccora (Sig), the Arbal (Aghbal) and three marabouts (Ain-Tolba) and Ad Dracones (Hammam-Bou -Hadjar) and Sidi Ali Benyoub, the latter even his name was forgotten! The second category; It is that of the sites whose disappearance was so complete and total that no knowledge of their history remained until their "rediscovery" and by excavation of archeology such as Tect (Tenira), Astacilis (Tessala), Youb (Berthelot) and the various relays of western Algeria at the time of the Romans.
