Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the extent to which information professionals in academic libraries in the Sultanate of Oman are aware of recent trends in cataloging information sources.

Additionally, the study aimed to measure professionals' knowledge of the new RDA cataloging rules.

The study also explores the impact of RDA rules on searching and retrieving information practices in the various library departments.

The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach and used the questionnaire as a tool to explore the opinions of specialists.

The study results showed an acceptable level of awareness of the RDA standard among information specialists, and it became clear that the high level of information culture they have, which in turn reflected in their ability to orb modern trends in cataloging and dealing With it.

This contributed to increasing their knowledge of modern standards in cataloging and the RDA standard.

The results also indicated that most specialists acknowledged the RDA description standard's contribution in achieving better results in searching or retrieving information sources and the ability to find and identify materials.

The result of the positive impact of the changes brought by the RDA rules represented in the ability to add more than three authors of the work, adding new description fields related to the type of content, medium, and carrier, as well as avoiding the use of abbreviations in describing the material.

Though, it was found that several challenges face library specialists, such as the difficulty in understanding RDA terms and lack of training on the RDA rules.

The study recommended the necessity of increasing knowledge, awareness of the RDA standard among information specialists through appropriate media, on-the-job training, and encouraging specialists to attend workshops, training courses, and conferences
