It is primarily a human practice, promoted by divine religions and followed by human civilizations.

Voluntary social work has been closely linked to Islamic law, taking its roots from the Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet, which has made Islamic society abound with many of the inherent social and religious values that have contributed to deepening the spirit of social solidarity.
