The study discusses the growing number of information sources in the digital environment, reaching the conclusion that these sources have become the main reference for researchers and scholars, and to a degree more than their reliance on sources of paper information.

This is the study's point of view, which prompted those interested in digital publishing to search for a new mechanism through which to control the large number of digital content, and ensure access to it regardless of where it is published or made available as long as it is subject to the policy of open access.

In this regard, the study reviewed the traditional methods that were and are still common to achieve this goal.

To end the features and characteristics of the Digital Object ID [DOI] and what it can bring to the benefits of researchers and publishers alike.
