Abstract EN

The practical side of translation is rarely taught as compared to the conventional way of theory teaching.

Addressing this point, our work aims to highlight the contribution of the socio-cultural competence to foreign languages teaching/learning process, more specifically to the area of translation studies at University.

In fact, while translating, learners may come across different types of texts, each one tackles a specific topic about a specific domain: culture, literature, history, civilization, politics...etc.

Therefore, the targeted topic cannot be dealt with without having a perfect knowledge about its ins and outs.

Consequently, avoiding the negative overlap between languages, the translator must not only have a linguistic competence, but he also has to perfectly master the various components of the target language.

For instance, how can one address the idiomatic expression or the set phrases, word play or periphrasis? This question is to be communicated and answered through our study.
