Abstract EN

This study addresses the debate of the Algerian scholar Sheikh Abu Ras al-Nassiri to a group of Wahhabi scholars in Mecca during the Hajj season of 1811 CE.

This coincided with the sending of Sultan Sulaiman al-Alawi a message and an official delegation to Prince Saud bin Abdul Aziz in order to learn about the origins of Wahhabism, resume the Hajj movement, and weaken the Ottomans In alliance with their Saudi enemies, who seized Hijaz Despite attempts to communicate with the Wahhabis, differences remained, as the Abu Ras debate demonstrated the degree of fundamental disagreement about the issue of sanctities and their demolition by the Wahhabis, as well as their prevention of collective remembrance, the use of rosary, and reading the book of evidence of good deeds.

Abu Ras began his debate with praise for those who met the scholars of Wahhabism, and mentioned that they are notables, supervision and virtues, and perhaps the diplomatic and propaganda sense in receiving the delegation of Moroccan pilgrims, including Abu Ras, had a clear impact on praise.

Abu Ras briefly reviewed the details of the debate, as it dealt with: the issue of Asr prayer, the use of rosary when remembering, reading the book of signs of good deeds, and demolishing the sanctities on the part of the Wahhabis.

Abu Ras stated that he managed to persuade them of his opinion on some issues, while they insisted on their position on other issues.

Despite the diplomatic nature of Sultan Suleiman's message, it strengthened Abi Ras's position in rejecting the Wahhabi discourse, which is based on atonement, intimidating pilgrims, and destroying sanctities, and in return Suleiman's message praised the Wahhabi efforts to combat distortions.

Abu Ras concluded his presentation of his debate by judging the Wahhabi approach when he considered them out of the Hanbali school and other Sunni schools of thought in the branches, but in the doctrine they are on the approach of Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal.
