Abstract EN

The study examines the contribution of value determinism theory (VDT) in understanding the ethical system’s relation with the social system on different levels and the relation between media and other sub-systems such as the legal, the legislative and the economic.

The study presents an epistemological reading of three normative theories in media: social responsibility theory, communi-tarianism with its branches (ethics of being and communitarian media ethics) and value determinism theory.

The study advances a model for the study of media ethics that rests on three levels: moral thought, conscience and contemporary media practices.

The model is based on a structural connection among levels of analysis that make is possible to understand media ethics in the context of ethical theory and larger contexts of values and meanings.
