Audio-Visual documents are considered part of the memory of the community and of its cultural heritage and must be preserved like rest of the culturalproperties.

The functions of the Audio-visual archivscentres vary trough development of tapes and records, in addition to meeting the needs of researchers and beneficiaries, with the setting of indexes, information services, technical management, Documents maintenance, containers, manpower training, and other functions.

The aim of the study is to shed light on the functions of the audio-visual archives centres through three axes: the maintenance of documents as well as the improvement of preservation conditions, avoiding the dangers of heat, humidity and dust, and finallythe definition of digital applications on the audio-visual documents for better preservation.

The study is based on descriptive analytical methodology.
