Catholic and Protestant missionary missions spread in Italian Somalia during the tutelage period significantly, and their role was not limited to converting Muslims to Christianity and spreading secular Western culture, but rather sought to get rid of the use of the Arabic language among the sects of the Somali people, and they demanded to use one of the Somali dialects and make it the official language of the country and write it.

To spend from it on the mission's centers and activities, and the Italian administration was providing all the facilities and privileges to facilitate the work of those missions, because the missionaries were working in the first place to serve the colonialists and stabilize their feet in the country.

The activities of the Christianization missions in Italian Somalia were met with great efforts by Egypt, which devoted all its institutions to limit the influence of these missions.

So Egypt worked on the diplomatic level, through its representative in the Advisory Council in Somalia, and through the Egyptian Consul in Mogadishu, and on the cultural level it sent its missions from Al-Azhar Al-Sharif for preaching, counseling and education, and the Egyptian Ministry of Education to increase national awareness.

It also opened its doors for Somali students to learn in Al-Azhar and Egyptian universities.
