Drones are small- sized unmanned planes which can be remotely piloted and controlled from the ground.

Drones have been used for various civil and military purposes.

UAE has made rapid strides in the arena of drone development and use.

However, drone use over the past period has not been without its associated risks given the absence of legal regulation in many countries.

One of the risks is the interruption of air traffic when such unmanned vehicles are flown in the vicinity of airports.

Other associated risks are the violation of privacy by taking photos and videos with drones, and the use of such drones in terrorist attacks.

This study delves into drones in terms of their types, features, importance, uses, advantages, current and future changes and risks.

It summed up with a host of recommendations, major among them are: the need for manufacturing drones given their importance in counter-terrorism operations, and need for a law regulating drones registration and licensing following the example of France December regulations on drones
