As globalization embodies increasingly cross-border interactions in various fields, especially political and economic ones, its impact will be intrinsic in the relations governed by international law to the extent of alleviating the olute neutrality that was attached to a permanent neutrality state like Switzerland since 1815.

The emergence of global institutions, such as the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organization, as well as the accession of neutral countries to those institutions would threaten neutrality by providing loans that might reach countries in a state of war.

The propagation of a clash of civilizations may urge neutral states to abandon their neutrality through abiding by the position of a military.

Moreover, the concepts of globalization have moved into international organizations, like the United Nations, a fact that makes the Member State amenable to a departure from its traditional neutrality, while the one that has not been adapted to the new system will face isolation.
