Abstract EN

Pragmatics is related to a series of old and modern advances and accumulations in the field of philosophy of language.

The first origination of pragmatics recurs to the Greek philosophers such as Socrates, Aristotle and the Elutriates philosophers.

However, pragmatics did not have clear features.

The modern notion of this term recurs to the philosopher “Charles Morris”.

Most studies indicate the interference of this new cognitive field with other fields such as linguistics, semiology, sociology, mass-communication with all its numerous methods and several forms.

This study aims at monitoring, scrutinizing and analyzing the speech acts which appeared in the speeches of Al-Hajaj Ibn Youssef Al-Thakfy in the light of the pragmatic approach.

The reason for choosing such data for this research paper is the significance of Al-Hajaj's speeches as rich linguistic sources which are regarded as scientific, cognitive, linguistic and cultural sources.

Al-Hajaj's speeches provoke many questions in readers' minds.

In addition, such speeches connect between networks of relations that have profound effective meanings.
