Abstract AR

Accumulated growth in a country’s income varies enormously across countries over time.

Thus, economists have focused on investigating of factors that could play a vital role as determinants of economic growth.

As attempt, this paper is to analyze the determinants of economic growth in Libya.

The model growth was tested by employing the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bound test on annual data (1980-2015).

The empirical findings reveal that an increase in economic growth is associated with increases in consumption expenditures and exports.

By contrast, an increase in investment causes a decrease in economic growth.

Hence, seemingly, the growing of capital expenditure has been at the expense of current expenditure, as a result, , the capital expenditure has become unproductive when it used in excess.

This implies that the government should revise an allocation of its public expenditures in a way that could sustain higher economic growth rate.
