Abstract EN

This study gives empirical evidence of the achievements in the United Arab Emirates during the decade 1991-2000 in human and social development.

The study assesses the major social indicators of human development outlined in the United Nations Human Development Reports, such as expectcd age, number of years of education, and GNP.

The study then compares these telling indicies with those of both other Gulf states and those of Arab speaking states outside of the Gulf area.

It concludes with explanatory comments on these trends of development within the Arab world.
