Empowering small and medium enterprises is considered as one of the main prerogatives of the government since it plays a key role in the development of the economy.
Algeria is now conscious about the role of this type of companies.
It is trying to provide it with a stable environment and with the necessary tools that will allow it to be more competitive in different markets.
In this sense, new laws that aim to promote SMEs have been elaborated by the government in order to allow it to fully play its role in the process of diversification and development of our national economy.
The present study sheds light on this sector from a macroeconomic perspective based on the available statistics about SMEs.
It will also emphasize its role in the economic development of the province of Constantine.

La PME constitue l'un des défis majeurs du plan d'action du gouvernement du fait qu'elle procure une croissance soutenue pour l'économie et assure son développement d'une manière durable.
L'Algérie a pris conscience du rôle de ce type d'entreprises en créant un environnement propice dotant d'outils efficaces lui permettant de confronter la concurrence et mieux se positionner sur les marchés.
Ainsi, de nouvelles lois d'orientation sur la PME ont été promulguées afin d'aboutir à un long processus de concertation avec les parties concernées pour donner un nouveau souffle à ce type d'entreprises dans le but de jouer pleinement son rôle dans le processus de diversification et de développement de notre économie.
Notre étude met l'accent sur secteur sur un plan macro-économique, en se basant sur des statistiques produisant un état des lieux des PME en Algérie, sans pour autant oublier sa contribution au développement régional durable sur un territoire plus étroit qu'est la wilaya de Constantine.
