Abstract EN

The study aims to analyze the impact of the general budget deficit on the state of the trade balance of the Algerian economy in the short and long term during the period considered 1980-2017.

Using the self-regression model (ARDL), the study examined the theoretical basis of the relationship between the general budget and the trade balance from a Keynesian point of view, which indicates a direct relationship ranging from the budget deficit to the balance of trade, and the Ricardian equivalence which denies any relation between them.

The results of the study revealed a causal link from the budget deficit to the trade balance, which corresponds to the Keynesian theory, and that there was no causal relationship between the trade balance and the deficit budgetary.
