Fear is one of the inherent qualities in the human self that is affected by the external environment, whether natural or human and according to the level and type of fear, this study aims to shed light on the images that showed fear in man in ancient Iraqi society by relying on one of the texts of Sumerian literature The epic of Gilgamesh and the Land of the Living is one of the stories of the Sumerian hero Gilgamesh, the ruler of the city of Warka, which showed one of the weaknesses of man through his influence around him.

This epic illustrated a number of aspects of human fear, including the fear of death as well as the fear of the gods, as well as the fear of man, whether the fear of society to the ruler as well as the fear of the ruler for his flock and other forms of fear shown by the fear of other creatures.

The epic did not stop at this point in giving pictures of fear, but clarified the ways followed by Gilgamesh in confronting and eliminating that fear.
