Abstract EN

his is a poem about the Great Battle of Badr, a decisive battle in the history of Islam.

It is a battle where God drew the distinction between truth and falsehood, and between unbelief and faith in order to suppress injustice and tyranny, and save the oppressed, men, women and children who were too weak to leave Mecca and migrate to Madina, the House of Faith.

Even though writing about the famous Battle of Badr, the poet Cheikh Aṭṭafayyish (1818- 1914)did not wish his identity overshadowed; he brought up his homeland and the situation therein during his lifetime as if aiming to stir resolutions and light the souls with the spark of jihad and strength to fight the French enemy.

He was inspired by what The Messenger and his companions did in Badr, earning them God's blessed victory.

The poem was edited through three manuscript versions, all complete containing 115 verses.
