This paper aims to show the role of smart specialization in diversifying the economic structure through innovation, which is a key determinant of sustainable growth.

in recent years, countries and regions in the European Union have embarked on applying the smart specialization approach as a prominent strategy in promoting innovation.

The study concluded that smart specialization diversifies the structure of the regional economy by generating new specialties and options for growth within that region and thus increasing competitiveness and productivity, But this will only be done by expanding efforts between the various actors in the process.
