Abstract EN

This study belongs to the field of modern literary criticism in that it is devoted to the analysis of a late 20th century diwan/collection by the poet Hamid Taher.

The study examines parody as a technical expressive device, revealing its methodological origins/roots in western research and identifying its appearance in the diwan/collection under consideration and showing, as well, the connection of all of this to the literary and cultural environment in Egypt in the last quarter of the 20th century.

The study suggests the reasons that prompted the poet Hamid Taher to employ parody in this diwan/collection which came as a protest at a time of crisis in the social, cultural, and literary domains.

Rather than confront this crisis using traditional, customary modes of expression, the poet created a parallel and imaginary virtual society.

In it, administering dose after dose of often bitter laughter, he used parody to satirize and lay bare the circumstances that prevailed at the time.
