After the political impotence and military weakness that prevailed in the Maghreb during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the door was opened wide for European countries to colonize them.

France had the luck of the lion in the region after it concluded several international treaties with its counterparts from the colonial empires in that period, and since colonial armies set foot in the region.

Even the people rose up to resist them, declaring their total rejection of any form of compromise.

What distinguishes the popular Maghreb resistance is that it was launched under the banner of jihad, and led by religious figures in the first place, who were able to convince the people that it is possible to fight the battle of liberation against the colonialists, with limited capabilities and even achieve victory, but the leaders of these resistance had to follow different military methods that depend on small battles And the hit-and-run method at the beginning in order for it to achieve the goal of the attack, with minimal losses and to avoid direct confrontation.

The aim of the research is to show the effectiveness of the small war method in dispersing the enemy and spreading terror in the hearts of the members of his army, as a preliminary start to victory, as well as knowing the methods that the Maghreb resistance took in applying this method, especially the resistance of Prince Abdelkader and Muhammad Ibn Abdel Karim Al-Khattabi, as we reached this point.

The research showed that the application of such methods greatly benefited the leaders of the Maghreb resistance in achieving victory with the least number and number, and enabled them with a small army to confront organized and trained armies and inflict heavy losses on them.
