The French explorers realized that the subjugation of the country of Chinguetti would only be by breaking its identity and influencing its culture, showing great interest in the cultural and religious identity of this country.

The focus of this interest was on the collection and compilation of Their intellectual and religious works.

As such the explorers wrote about the various aspects of social life.

In the second stage of the discovery of this society, the French colonial administration sought to demarcate the French culture and replace it with the prevailing culture by imposing special educational curricula taught in schools and MAHDARS (traditional school).

On the other hand The colonial french administration forced, under pressure, many of the elders, the country and the general public to catch up with French schools.

However, the number of registered students was limited.

This led to the imposition of French teaching in MAHDRA under tents.

Which has not been successful because of the country’s clinging to their cultural and religious identity.
