Abstract EN

The paper addresses the religious authorities that are followed by extremist groups today and in the past, showing the invalidity of their claims of following them in method and practices.

The most important religious authorities followed by these groups have been discussed in terms of Allah’s Book, His Prophet’s Traditions, the practices of the early righteous Muslims, the claim about following and adhering to Imam Ibn Taymiyah or Imam Muhammad Ibn Abulwahab.

The paper compares the characteristics of those extremists as to the opinions of the religious authorities regarding abhorring their practices of extremism, excommunication (without a reason), deeming properties and blood lawful, and rebellion against rulers.

The paper consists of an overview, introduction and two sections.

The first section deals with the distinctive characteristics of the extremist groups.

The second which is covered in four subsections addresses the validity of their claims of following the religious authorities.

The paper finds out that these claims are invalid.
