The Algerian legislator required banks and financial institutions to notify the Financial Inquiry Cell of any suspicious process, as a legislative mechanism to uncover the crime of money laundering and what is related to it, weighing this obligation on the principle of banking secrecy, which requires protecting the secrets of clients.

Given the important and effective role of notification of suspicion, the legislator issued an arsenal of legal texts that include the regulation of this notification, while exempting financial institutions from any liability arising from the notification of suspicion, and in return imposing penal and disciplinary sanctions on financial institutions that violate this obligation.
