A trader's obligation to inform a consumer of what he ought to be known is a legal means aimed at bridging the knowledge gap between the aforementioned parties, to avoid a consumer being in a weak position and also to prevent a trader's abuse.

This article demonstrates that the Iraqi consumer protection Act No.

(1) of 2010, as a result of comparing it with the European Directive of 2011, has expiernced several lopholes and shortcoming in dealing with several matters such as those connecting with the content of the obligation, the disclosure's formula, time of its folufulling, whether a trader is obliged to enumerate the same clauses which have been mentioned in the precontracting phase in the contract with the consumer, and so forth.

The author is of the view that the aforementioned shortcomings in the Iraqi legislation may limit the law's effeciently at protecting the consumer.
