This article focuses on ethos and pathos in political discourses, more specifically in a kind that has become a ritual in French presidential elections under the fifth Republic: the in-between debate.
This unmissable political and media event brings together the last two presidential candidates.
François Hollande (FH) and Nicolas Sarkozy (NS) joined in the tradition on Wednesday May 2, 2012 during the final duel which saw them face each other.
The liveliness characterizing this duel, because of the importance of the stake of dialogue, makes it possible to understand the strategies deployed by each of the two candidates to show to the electorate that it is important to convince, an identity favorable to the function presidential.

Cet article porte sur l'éthos et le pathos dans le discours politique, plus précisément dans un genre devenu un rituel des élections présidentielles françaises sous la cinquième République: le débat de l'entre-deux tours.
Cet événement politico-médiatique incontournable réunit les deux derniers candidats en lice aux présidentielles.
François Hollande (FH) et Nicolas Sarkozy (NS) se sont inscrits dans la tradition le mercredi 2 mai 2012 lors de l'ultime duel qui les a vus se faire face.
La vivacité caractérisant ce duel, en raison de l'importance de l'enjeu du dialogue, permet de saisir les stratégies déployées par chacun des deux candidats pour afficher à l'électorat qu'il est important de convaincre, une identité favorable à la fonction présidentielle.
