Abstract EN

This study aimed at identifying the degree of including the concepts of human rights in the textbook of modern and contemporary history for the third preparatory class in Iraq by developing a list of the human rights concepts that should be included in the history textbook.

In order to achieve the study objectives, the researcher developed a list of human rights that consisted of (32) concepts distributed to five domains and the third preparatory class textbook was used as the study sample.

The researcher used the approach of content analysis by meaning and implication.

The frequencies and percentages were also used as the statistical methods.

The study results showed that the total frequencies of the values included in the history textbook for the third preparatory class were (249) frequencies.

The domain of civil rights was in the first place, followed by the domain of political rights, and then the domain of cultural rights and social rights, while the economic rights domain was in the last rank.

The concept of (the right of self-determination) was in the first place in terms of frequencies times, followed by the concept of freedom right, with (39) frequencies, while some concepts had very few frequencies, including ( the right to participate in peaceful foundations and meetings), ( the right of labor strike according to the law of the country), as well as (the right to establish syndicates and affiliating to them).

Based on the results, the researcher recommended of taking into consideration the balance in distributing the concepts of human rights in the history textbook according to scientific and educational principles, as well as paying attention to the values related to the domains that didn't receive enough frequencies, such as the values of economic domain, the values of social domain and the values of cultural domain.
