Abstract EN

Relative gains assumption in international relations has dominated the theoretical works of a large number of researchers and scholars in the field of international politics.

Some of them, such as Joseph Grieco, Robert Jervis, Robert Gilpin, Stephan Krasner, Kenneth Waltz, Lipson and others have discussed the Inhibiting Role played by relative gains in reducing the phenomenon of cooperation between states.

The current changes have parrallely increased the scientific value of this subject, especially in the light of the decline of liberal ideas since the outbreak of the global economic crisis in 2008, and the resulting events, notably the British Brexit from the European Union and the withdrawal of the administration of US President Donald Trump from the APEC, Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership and the Paris agreement on Climate change.

Those events according to many scholars had reinforced the factual claims of the realism school on the idea of relative gains and the limitation of the phenomenon of cooperation in world politics.
