Since the 1970s human thought has seen two new concepts, the knowledge economy and sustainable development.

have emerged for the developed and developing word countries, which adopt the knowledge economy as a key tool in achieving their sustainable development.

The research included four topics, the first of which is the concept of sustainable development, the second is the concept of the knowledge economy, the third is the knowledge economy as a tool for sustainable development, and the fourth Is the Iraqi experience between the knowledge economy and sustainable development.

The research concluded that Iraq lacked the elements of a knowledge economyFrom the main obstacle to at development especially the failure to develop the human resource and the weakness of openness to wards the world before 2003 led to the disruption of this development, and this openness, calculated after 2003 led to more economic and openness, calculated after 2003 led to more economic and non – economic problems was a disruption to sustainable.

The study came out with a set of recommendations, the most important of which is the need to establish a higher council for this development in Iraq, and the need to accelerate the formation of e-government as a basic engine for the knowledge economy and to fight administrative that affect all state institutions.
