Solid waste and garbage disposal is a major responsibility for the producer, community, government municipality or the authority responsible for collecting, sorting, processing and final disposal.

If the competent authority does not have good disposal management, it presents itself with environmental, economic and social problems.

An exploratory study was carried out for the employees of Shaab Municipality - Baghdad and the dealers directly with the solid wastes and wastes of all types and from all their medical, industrial and residential sources during the months of (August and September) of 2018.

The objective of the study was to assess the application of occupational safety standards for workers in solid waste collection in Shaab municipality.

The study included (45) workers out of (138) workers directly exposed to work risks, ie (32.6%) of the total workers The sample was randomly collected from the nine main assembly areas (al-Bayda, al-Kabir, Ghazlan, Sumer, al-Basateen, Ur, Bub al-Sham, Algeria and the people).

The questionnaire was explained to each individual worker and the questionnaire sections were filled by researchers.

The results of the study showed that (90%) do not adhere to wearing personal protective equipment, which leads to exposure to the effects of the inappropriate work environment and lead to complaints, especially since the management of the center was unable to provide most of the equipment.

The study recommended the provision of personal protective equipment for workers to suit the requirements of work.
