Abstract EN

This research deals with the phenomenon of cultural resistance during the French occupation of Algeria, represented in the interest in Arabic in a local environment (Mzab), where one of its intellectuals, Hadj Omar Ben Ibrahim Al-Atfawi financed the printing of many books of Sheikh Mohammed Ben Yusuf Atfayyesh with his own money, with a partner from Beni Yesdjan called Hadj Mohamed Ben Saleh Al-Yosjni in charge of the printing process.

We ask through this study a series of questions: who is Hadj Omar Ben Ibrahim, and what are the motives and indications of his interest in the books of Sheikh Atfayyesh, and how were the conditions of printing the Arabic book during the French occupation.

Who were the Algerian calligraphers and what are the lines used? The study opens horizons to other topics such as lithography, Algerian calligraphers and Arabic calligraphy.

The significance of the study is that it is based on three decades documenting a temporary partnership in the field of book printing, an interesting phenomenon, at a time of ignorance and demand for the book.
