Abstract EN

Many who studies the plays of Seneca will face a lot of argument about his theater.

some see that Seneca's plays are concern of Philosiphic and Rhetoric views more than dramatic functions.

Others see that Seneca display his philosophic views after being concern of the dramatic fuction of the play.

And through all these arguments I choose to study the character of the nurse in this play, in order to analyse her role, and display the dramatic function of her character, connecting all that with the structure of the play, and with the philosophic thought of Seneca, which will lead to more understading the case of argument.

This search focus on the role of the nurse, and how Seneca through her display an important case in rhetoric views which is the conflict between Ratio (mind) and Voluptas( feeling) the myth of the play.

and how he use the nurse dramatically to focus on (hamartia ) the faults of the two main characters –Hippolyutus and Phaedra-, athough the nurse it 's not a main character but a secondary one.

And above all that he was able to make the main idea of the play develop in the same time with the action and character.

And we think that the dramatic fuction of the play agree in the same time with the philosophic thought of Seneca
