Abstract EN

This study is concerned with some aspects of coexistence between Muslims and non- Muslims drawing on books of fatwa and nawazil (emerging issues) in the Western Islamic world.

It comes in two parts: The first part presents a general overview of the concept of pacifist coexistence as viewed in the Islamic religion, its foundations and some of its basic features.

The second part highlights aspects of this coexistence through some religious, social and human issues.

The present study also paves the way for further research within this under- investigated area of maliki jurisprudence which has been so far mostly dominated by studies that focus on Muslims in relation to each other, despite the existence of a variety of sources in the maliki literature on emerging issues which can be referred to so as to counter many suspicions and allegations of autocracy and intolerance against non-Muslims.
