Abstract EN

This article tries to show the features of the unity between Algeria and the Mediterranean region at the level of the demographic phenomenon during the 16th and 17th centuries.

As both of those domains have known advanced population growth beginning from the 16th century to the early 18th century which has helped in a similar growth of urban communities and the revival of economic life.

And despite the size and density of the population between Algeria and the Mediterranean countries they share the factors of growth and its impediments.

Also, the similarity property stands out in the accompaniment of the growth of their populations which has undergone several transformations and developments during the 17th century including rural areas and cities.

In this regard Algeria started, with other countries in the field, the worst demographic stage in its history right after the black plague that killed half the population of the European continent.

Therefore, with the beginning of this century the two fields have had several crises such as drought, famines and epidemics affecting their respective populations which experienced a period of slowdown and decline back then.
