يعد المدح و الفخر من أهم الأغراض في التراث الشعري ولما كان الرجل محور هذين الغرضين فإن وصف الشاعر اتجه بالأساس إلى الجانب الأخلاقي أما الجانب الجسدي فلم يحتل إلا مساحة صغيرة.
و الأمر نفسه ينطبق على قصيدة الهجاء التي كان الحديث فيها عن جسد الرجل مقتصرا على إبراز العيوب الجسمية و السخرية من الإعاقات التي كان يعاني منها الخصم.
عمل بعض الكتاب في التراث على محو الصورة السلبية التي تكونت حول المعاقين أو المصابين بعيوب جسدية و كانت كتب التاريخ أو ما كان يعرف بكتب الأخبار و الأنساب سباقة إلى العناية بذكر طبقات ذوي العيوب و إثبات الأشراف الذين عانوا من إعاقة أو إعاقات متعددة و قد حرص المؤرخون على استقصاء أسماء جميع الشخصيات المشهورة التي لم تمنعها العيوب أو الإعاقات الجسدية من الاندماج في المجتمع و تقلد أعلى المناصب.
و قد اقتصر جهد المؤرخين على ذكر اسم الشخصيات دون ذكر أخبار مستفيضة عنها.
أسهم الشعراء في تغيير الصورة المتداولة حول ذوي العيوب و الإعاقات و ينقسم أولئك الشعراء إلى فئتين : شعراء عانوا من العيوب و الإعاقات و شعراء أصحاء.
و ستسعى الدراسة الحالية إلى تتبع بعض الأبيات الشعرية التي أعلت فيها الفئتان المذكورتان من النقص الجسدي و ذلك بهدف تحليلها و الوقوف على الطرق و الأساليب الفنية التي حاول من خلالها الشعراء الدفاع عن ذلك النقص.
و سنقتصر في هذا المجال على ثلاثة عيوب : البرص العمى العرج

Praise and pride were the most important genres in classical Arabic poetry, in both genres the description of the poet tended mainly to the moral side, while the physical side was almost negligible.
The same goes for the satirical poem, in which the poets were keen to point out physical flaws and ridicule the handicaps suffered by the adversary.
Contrary to this doctrine, some poets have helped to change the image that circulates around people with disabilities, and we can divide these poets into two categories: poets who themselves suffered from defects and disabilities and normal poets.
The current study will seek to trace some of the poetic lines in which the two groups mentioned exaggerated physical impairment, in order to analyze them and build on the ways in which they attempted to defend this impairment.
In this regard, we will limit ourselves to three shortcomings: leprosy, blindness and leprosy

Fakhr et Madih étaient les plus importants genres dans la poésie arabe classique, dans ces deux genres, la description du poète tendait principalement au côté moral, tandis que le côté physique était presque négligeable.
La même chose se dit pour le poème satirique, dans lequel les poètes tenaient à souligner les défauts physiques et à ridiculiser les handicaps dont souffrait l'adversaire.
Contrairement à cette doctrine, certains poètes ont contribué à changer l'image qui circule autour des personnes handicapées, et on peut diviser ces poètes en deux catégories: des poètes qui souffraient eux-mêmes de défauts et de handicaps et les poètes normaux.
L'étude actuelle cherchera à retracer certains des vers poétiques dans lesquels les deux groupes mentionnés ont exagéré la déficience physique, afin de les analyser et de s'appuyer sur les manières par lesquelles ils ont tenté de défendre cette déficience.
À cet égard, nous nous limiterons à trois défauts : la lèpre, la cécité et la boiterie.
