Abstract EN

This study aimed to identify the methods used by specialists and teachers to modify aggressive behavior of children with hearing impairment in special education and rehabilitation centers in the district of Ramallah/ Al-Bireh.The descriptive research method was used with a random study sample consisting of (62) specialists and teachers who responded to (49) itemized questionnaire, concerning (3) aspects (The role of specialist, the role of institution, and role of the family).

The study findings indicted that there is no significant statistical difference in the methods used by specialists and teachers to modify aggressive behavior in hearing impaired children attributed to the variables of (gender, specialization, academic qualification, years of experience, age group dealt with by the specialist, and number of trainings received).

Regarding the aspects of the questionnaire; first, the “Role of specialist” aspect showed that social non-verbal and verbal reinforcement are the most commonly used methods in modifying aggressive behavior.

Verbal and physical punishment was the least used.

Second, the “Role of institution” aspect indicated the positive role in providing facilities to apply the behavior modification programs.

On the other hand, the institutions’ evaluation of these programs and level of parents’ satisfaction got low responses.

Third, the “Role of family” aspect indicated that the family’s quest to know about their child and communicating with specialists was positive, but their attendance to lectures and discussions held by institution was weak.
