Abstract EN

Irakeyn Expedition” is the first of the three great campaigns made by Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent of the Ottoman Empire against the Safavid ruler Shah Tahmasb who reigned in Iran.

Kanuni Sultan Süleyman's famous expedition is known as “Irakeyn Expedition” in our sources.

It is one of the largest and longest military operations in the east of the Ottoman army.

Kanuni Sultan Süleyman's expedition lasted 1 year, 6 months and 27 days.

This expedition to Iran, which was attended by Suleiman the Magnificent, was very useful for the Ottoman Empire in terms of material and spiritual aspects.

First, the unity of Anatolia was achieved and the political and geographical impact of the state increased.

Many cities and towns in Iraq especially in Baghdad joined the Ottoman Empire.

Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia - except Van and Ercis- have been fully recovere.
