Abstract EN

The study aimed to highlight the personal experience of a family with three children suffering from acute sensory neuropsychiatric loss which required cochlear implantation at an early age.

The study also explores the factors leading to the decision to undergo cochlear implantation, ultimately culminating in an accumulation of vast and thorough experiences in overcoming deaf/hard of hearing difficulties.

The choice of cochlear implantation is one of the options in early intervention and among the most difficult decisions in the life of each family.

It involves a wide range of considerations and obligations to the desired benefits versus the potential risks.

This study was carried out using the phenomological approach in the form of in-depth interviews conducted with the family.

It was found that the experience of this family developed in three stages: mixed feelings, a stage of struggle between action or stagnation and the stage of experience and transformation.

The results were discussed and compared with the those of previous studies on decision-making among families of deaf childre.
