The present research paper attempts to reveal the pedagogical approach adopted in the Algerian educational system for the teaching and learning of writing competency in the middle school.

for this purpose, we have studied the curricula and the accompanying documents in order to explore the extent at which it copes with the modern educational movement used in the western methodologies concerning the field of teaching and learning the writing process.
