Abstract EN

In this research, we will address the endowment system in Algeria during the late Ottoman era, which has reached a great deal, as a result of several factors, and the role that it played under the supervision of the endowment institutions that were established to run it, such as the Two Holy Mosques Foundation, Mecca and Medina, the paths of good deeds, and the Great Mosque Foundation, which enjoyed high status, and contributed greatly to Revitalization and development of Algerian society, and the establishment of an active cultural and intellectual movement by activating the role of mosques, schools and angles in spreading knowledge, memorizing the Holy Quran and fighting manifestations of ignorance and illiteracy that are virtually nonexistent among Algerians until the end of the Ottoman era.

With the fall of Algeria in the hands of the French occupation, the destructive machinery rushed to destroy the endowments and sabotage the wall, exposing its sanctity to the Algerians, by issuing several decrees and decisions aimed at limiting the spread of the endowment system and nullifying its active role within Algerian society.
