كان شحن المجرمين هو أكثر أشكال العقوبة فعالية و أسهله، و بعد فقدان المستعمرات الأمريكية ، استعمرت أستراليا باسم ان الارض ليست لاحد من أجل إيواء المجرمين و التخلص منهم.لقد كانت سجنا طبيعيا.
و بما أن بناء السجون كانت مكلف ة ، فقد بدا أن نفي المجرمين هو الحل الأكثر فعالية .
و هذ المقال هو توضيح كيف تحول المجرم و المستعمر إلى مالك و صاحب ارض
Abstract EN
The shipping of criminals was the most effective and the easiest form of penalty.
It was very far lenient form of punishment in comparison to the Bloody Code.
After the loss of the American colonies, Australia was colonized in the name of terra nullius for the sake of lodging criminals and getting rid of them.
It was a natural prison.
Since the construction of prisons were expensive, exiling criminals seemed the most practical solution.
The punishment of criminals had turned out to be unsympathetic, predominantly for crimes against property, even if it was only a matter of stealing a loaf of bread.
Therefore, theft was a serious crime, no matter how small it was.
In The Secret River(2005), Grenville describes how and why William Thornhill ekes a living as a boatman and small time thievery.
William is caught for theft and transported with his wife to Sydney for the term of his natural life.
Grenville explores the evolution of an impecunious criminal who is shipped off to Australia as a convict.

L'expédition de criminels était la forme de sanction la plus efficace et la plus facile.
C'était une forme de punition très indulgente par rapport au Code sanglant.
Après la perte des colonies américaines, l'Australie a été colonisée au nom de terra nullius pour héberger des criminels et s'en débarrasser.
C'était une prison naturelle.
La construction de prisons coûtant cher: l'exil des criminels semblait la solution la plus pratique.
La punition des criminels s’est révélée peu sympathique, principalement pour des crimes contre la propriété, même s’il ne s’agissait que de voler une miche de pain.
Par conséquent, le vol était un crime grave, aussi petit soit-il.
Dans The Secret River (2005), Grenville décrit comment et pourquoi William Thornhill a survécu en tant que batelier et voleur de petit temps.
William est pris pour un vol et transporté avec sa femme à Sydney pour la durée de sa vie naturelle.
