The end of the 1980 and the beginning of the 1990 marked the beginning of anew phase in the history of the Islamic movement in Morocco.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the spread of the democratic transformation that affected the socialist regimes, Morocco witnessed major changes that began in the 1990 and the subsequent attempts at political reform, opened the door to political pluralism, and allowed Islamic movements to adapt to the new reality by offering the idea of political participation.

The Moroccan political system has been able to define the parameters of formal Islam through the religious elite that accepted integration into the political process, which has shifted from a religious group opposed to the regime to a supportive force of the Moroccan political system.

Moreover, they contributed to the religious and political status of the king as a prince of the believers, and the power of the religious and temporal authorities
